Project Overview
- For this project we strating reading a book called Difficult Conversations and this book was all about learning how to have a Difficult Conversation using all of the different tools that they are providing you with. They teach you all kinds of things within the what happened conversation where you try to actually figure out what happened trying not to put blame on the other person by using statements such as I Feel… Then it goes into the feelings conversation where you should share you feelings no matter what they are because bottling up your feelings is a bad thing to do because you end up exploding and we all know that isn’t the best thing to do. After that we go into the identity conversation, that is where you debate with yourself and ask questions to see if you are the one at fault. The book does go through specific things to watch for and to do to make sure that you have a successful conversation.
Academic Skills & Life skills
During this project we did a lot of reading and analyzing and I think that that is a very important skill to have in your life because all throughout college that is what you're gonna be doing. Reading has always been something that I enjoy doing and something that I enjoy naturally so that was something that I had fun with. I think that I can use that to my advantage and make sure that I really understand what I am reading. The comprehension part was something that we needed to do but it was a drag because we had to keep pausing our reading to take notes.
- We can apply this book to our lives and make sure that we are heard when we are in the middle of a Difficult conversation. We all go through hard times and the way to get through them are either talking or just letting go and that book did a good job of teaching what we should do when we go to talk. It's also really good a problem solving because when you have a difficult conversation it's because you usually have a problem and finding ways to solve problems is something that doesn’t come natural to people.
Reflection
- I think that this book was really helpful but I don't think that we should have read the whole thing because it took too much time and because it started to get very repetitive by the end of it. I think I would have enjoyed this unit a lot more if we only read bits and pieces of it because we could have gone deeper into that part of the book and gotten more out of it and analyzed them a lot more closely.
