My story was something that I really struggled with. I did not want to talk about this story but it is was the story that I felt would make the most impact on myself and the audience. I talked to my teacher about my story and she said that I should write about this one because it is MY story and it is from my perspective. I picked this story even though It was hard for me to talk about it because I wanted to make sure people knew that I'm not just the person that they know me as I have other things going on and they don't always know about what is going on in my life outside of school.
My story from draft one to the last one was a complete 180 from the way that I wrote to the way that I decided to take the story. At first I was really scared that I was going to make my dad out to be one of those bad characters and make him someone that he is not. By the end on the project I did still feel bad but I didn't feel bad about the way that I was talking about him. I think that I made sure that people knew that my dad is someone that has impacted my life in both good and bad ways. I think that to get through this project with something that you are proud of you have to create more that 3 drafts and just constantly be adding and taking away stuff. I know that when I was in class writing or getting critique, I would be either adding stuff or taking out stuff that I didn't think sounded right anymore. I think something that really changed from my first to last draft was the biology part. I had a really obvious way that I could add the biology to it but It was something that didn't feel natural when writing, but eventually I made some adjustments and made it fit. |
