Project overview
Here we learned a lot about the pros and cons of nuclear energy, renewable energy, and fossil fuels. We learned a lot about each individual one but the one that I focused on the most was renewable energy because I made the poster for it so I had to research that one the most. On the poster we had to describe it in ways that people that knew nothing about the subject would be able to understand. We did this for the judges that weren’t Chemistry teachers they would be able to understand what was going on. We also had to do a claim evidence and reasoning for each form of energy and within that we talked about the pros and cons of cost, environment, infrastructure, and sustainability. This was very helpful not only for our debate but so that we knew what was going on in each one of those categories. For the actual debate we were in groups and we went against 3 other groups. The group that we debated was different each time.
Academic and Life Skills
This was a really good way to teach us how to research while giving us enough guidelines and resources that we didn't feel lost. This also taught us how to work with a group even if we got stuck with some people that didn’t pull their weight. We also got to have a really good debate with each of the teams that my team debated. I think that we were able to learn how to be respectful and know that it was still a debate because of how much structure there was in the debate.
This project taught us that not everyone is going to do their work so you either have to pick it up yourself or have the whole group take the bad grade because you did do your work and you couldn’t force them to do it. This is a good lesson to learn because no matter what you do in life there will be people that won’t do all of the work that they are supposed to do when you are doing everything in your power to help them get their work done. This also taught us how to do good research and be able to share with others what we have learned and I think that, that is a really good life skill because you’re going to have to tell people what you have learned that way you could teach them or they could make sure that you understood what was being taught to you.

Reflection
This is a project that I didn’t enjoy the process btu I did enjoy where we ended up and that is a little weird but the reason that I didn’t enjoy it as much leading up to it was because i had to take on more work than was originally planned and I didn’t find that out until the day before the debate because they didn’t tell me or anyone that they didn’t do their part of the debate prep work. This was a little frustrating but eventually we got over it and we did end up winning the debates and go first place out of the four teams that we debated against!
